Metals; Platinum, Semi-Manufactured Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average metals; platinum, semi-manufactured export price amounted to $41.8M per ton, increasing by 4.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 16% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $52,267 per kg. From January 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($51.5M per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($548K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average metals; platinum, semi-manufactured import price stood at $38.2M per ton in August 2023, declining by -2.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 29% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $54.0M per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($47.1M per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($16.3M per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Metals; platinum, semi-manufactured exports from Germany surged to 8.9 tons in 2022, rising by 18% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild decline.

Overall, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 34%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
