Metallised Yarn Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2022

The average metallised yarn import price stood at $8,201 per ton in 2022, growing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $10,045 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Australia ($8,868 per ton) and Portugal ($8,655 per ton), while the price for India ($7,779 per ton) and China ($8,042 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Metallised Yarn Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average metallised yarn export price amounted to $14,448 per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, metallised yarn export price increased by +15.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 62%. The export price peaked at $14,924 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($23,161 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uruguay ($7,807 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Metallised Yarn Imports in New Zealand

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of metallised yarn and strip, when their volume decreased by -15.4% to 315 tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 372 tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, metallised yarn imports contracted to $2.6M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.7M, and then shrank in the following year.
