Maize Price in Vietnam (CIF) - 2021
In December 2021, the average maize import price amounted to $318 per ton, surging by 3.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2021 an increase of 31% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $323 per ton in July 2021; however, from August 2021 to December 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Argentina ($317 per ton) and Myanmar ($313 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($297 per ton) and India ($308 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2021
The average maize export price stood at $254 per ton in December 2021, reducing by -3.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a measured expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2021 an increase of 45% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $483 per ton in May 2021; however, from June 2021 to December 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Cambodia.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the Philippines amounted to +3.3% per month.
Maize Imports in Vietnam
In 2022, approx. 12M tons of maize were imported into Vietnam; increasing by 9.6% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern.
In value terms, maize imports shrank to $2.3B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2.4B, and then fell in the following year.

Maize Exports in Vietnam
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of maize, when their volume decreased by -14.7% to 265K tons. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 75%.
In value terms, maize exports declined to $71M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 61%.
