Maize Price in Bolivia (FOB) - 2022

The average maize export price stood at $518 per ton in 2022, growing by 74% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 130%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,289 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($3,842 per ton), while the average price for exports to Peru ($207 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ecuador (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Maize Price in Bolivia (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average maize import price amounted to $949 per ton, picking up by 210% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a deep reduction. The import price peaked at $3,322 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,196 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($443 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Maize Exports in Bolivia

In 2022, shipments abroad of maize decreased by -81.3% to 11K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 754% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 58K tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, maize exports declined notably to $5.6M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 122% against the previous year.

Maize Imports in Bolivia

In 2022, purchases abroad of maize decreased by -86.1% to 4.1K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a precipitous shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 260% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 40K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, maize imports shrank notably to $3.8M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 99%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $12M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
