Lubricant Additives Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average lubricant additives export price stood at $5,689 per ton in August 2023, growing by 21% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a measured increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 80% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $6,028 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($10,264 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($3,619 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lubricant Additives Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average lubricant additives import price amounted to $3,744 per ton, rising by 1.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 25% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,600 per ton. From June 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($5,883 per ton), while the price for the UK ($1,335 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lubricant Additives Exports in the United States
In 2022, exports of prepared additives for mineral oils from the United States rose slightly to 1.1M tons, surging by 4.1% against the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, lubricant additives exports skyrocketed to $3.9B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.3% over the last three years.
