Live Fish Price in Vietnam (CIF) - 2021
The average live fish import price stood at $12,968 per ton in December 2021, shrinking by -3.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2021 when the average import price increased by 14% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $13,465 per ton, and then dropped in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($45,871 per ton), while the price for Japan ($3,387 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Live Fish Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2022
The average live fish export price stood at $6,084 per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $20,897 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($8,429 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($1,841 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Live Fish Imports in Vietnam
In 2022, live fish imports into Vietnam reduced sharply to 7.5K tons, waning by -25.9% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 131%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 10K tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, live fish imports declined sharply to $54M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 74% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $68M, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Live Fish Exports in Vietnam
For the fourth year in a row, Vietnam recorded growth in overseas shipments of live fish, which increased by 13% to 2.3K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 123% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, live fish exports rose sharply to $14M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $16M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
