Liquefied Propane Price in Romania (CIF) - 2023

The average liquefied propane import price stood at $600 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 8.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $781 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Hungary ($676 per ton) and Algeria ($630 per ton), while the price for the United States ($518 per ton) and Russia ($584 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (-1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average liquefied propane export price amounted to $729 per ton, rising by 5.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 64%. The export price peaked at $900 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($999 per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($686 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+26.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Liquefied Propane Imports in Romania

In 2022, liquefied propane imports into Romania shrank slightly to 151K tons, stabilizing at 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 151K tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, liquefied propane imports expanded remarkably to $117M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 109% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Liquefied Propane Exports in Romania

In 2022, overseas shipments of liquefied propanes decreased by -4.6% to 7.5K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 111% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 12K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, liquefied propane exports amounted to $5.5M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
