In 2022, the average liquefied propane import price amounted to $636 per ton, growing by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 114%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,381 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,105 per ton), while the price for Singapore ($390 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Liquefied Propane Imports in Bangladesh

In 2022, purchases abroad of liquefied propanes decreased by -10.8% to 8.3K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 10K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, liquefied propane imports rose notably to $5.3M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 11%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
