In August 2023, the average liquefied butanes import price amounted to $477 per ton, increasing by 14% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $696 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Norway ($570 per ton) and the UK ($490 per ton), while the price for Algeria ($390 per ton) and the United States ($430 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Algeria (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average liquefied butanes export price amounted to $731 per ton, rising by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $942 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($3,233 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($707 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+14.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Liquefied Butanes Imports in France
In 2022, the amount of liquefied butaneses imported into France expanded slightly to 1.3M tons, with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 8.6% against the previous year.
In value terms, liquefied butanes imports skyrocketed to $860M in 2022. In general, imports posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, liquefied butanes exports surged to $391M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 63% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
