Lignite Price in Egypt (CIF) - 2022

The average lignite import price stood at $111 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 211% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,876 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($111 per ton), while the price for India ($111 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (-1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Lignite Price in Egypt (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average lignite export price amounted to $310 per ton, waning by -1.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,273 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($3,243 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($58 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+14.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Lignite Imports in Egypt

In 2022, the amount of lignites imported into Egypt surged to 160 tons, rising by 55% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 3,049%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lignite imports soared to $18K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 775% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $175K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Lignite Exports in Egypt
