Lentil Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023

The average lentil import price stood at $1,378 per ton in June 2023, shrinking by -6.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 15% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,472 per ton, and then contracted in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,894 per ton), while the price for the United States ($679 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lentil Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023

The average lentil export price stood at $1,851 per ton in June 2023, with an increase of 8.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,903 per ton in June 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($3,740 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($1,406 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lentil Imports in the Netherlands

In 2022, approx. 17K tons of lentils were imported into the Netherlands; rising by 15% compared with 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, lentil imports skyrocketed to $22M in 2022. In general, imports showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 36%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Lentil Exports in the Netherlands

For the fourth year in a row, the Netherlands recorded growth in overseas shipments of lentils, which increased by 16% to 10K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, lentil exports skyrocketed to $18M in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
