Leather Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2022

The average leather export price stood at $2.7 per square meter in 2021, dropping by -40.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 133% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $14 per square meter in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($194 per square meter), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($2.5 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+53.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Leather Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2022

In 2021, the average leather import price amounted to $3.2 per square meter, dropping by -75.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 219% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $13 per square meter, and then declined markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($28 per square meter), while the price for Slovakia ($6.1 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Leather Exports in Belgium

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of leather decreased by -72.2% to 7.9M square meters in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 216% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 28M square meters, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, leather exports fell to $72M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 88%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $75M, and then dropped in the following year.
