Lard Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022

The average lard export price stood at $4,519 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 158% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted modest growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($19,333 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($500 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lard Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average lard import price amounted to $3,426 per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 151% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $5,480 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Germany.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for France amounted to +5.9% per year.

Lard Exports in Turkey

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of lard decreased by -0.8% to 129 kg in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2020 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 8.3%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 130 kg, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, lard exports soared to $583 in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, approx. 61 kg of lard were imported into Turkey; reducing by -53.8% against 2021 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a precipitous decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 780%.

In value terms, lard imports fell significantly to $209 in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 909%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $454, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
