Lard Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average lard export price amounted to $1,634 per ton, which is down by -1.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 12% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,104 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($2,899 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,770 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Lard Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average lard import price amounted to $1,124 per ton, declining by -3.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 9.2% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,762 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Denmark ($1,358 per ton) and France ($1,267 per ton), while the price for Italy ($987 per ton) and Germany ($1,112 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (-2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Lard Exports in the Netherlands

In 2022, approx. 12K tons of lard were exported from the Netherlands; dropping by -10.1% on 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 14K tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, lard exports surged to $22M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Lard Imports in the Netherlands

In 2022, approx. 15K tons of lard were imported into the Netherlands; dropping by -7.1% compared with the year before. Overall, imports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 70% against the previous year.

In value terms, lard imports skyrocketed to $21M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 112% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
