Lard Price in Hong Kong SAR (CIF) - 2023
In October 2023, the average lard import price amounted to $2,131 per ton, waning by -7.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 3.3% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,588 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($6,334 per ton), while the price for China ($1,893 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average lard export price amounted to $2,283 per ton, with a decrease of -12.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 91%. The export price peaked at $2,621 per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Macao SAR.
