Knitted Fabric Prices in China

China Knitted Fabric Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the knitted fabric price amounted to $5,342 per ton (FOB, China), leveling off at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 4.5% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $6,025 per ton. From April 2022 to September 2022, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($8,493 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($3,025 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kyrgyzstan (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Knitted Fabric Export Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was knitted or crocheted fabrics, of a width <= 30 cm, containing by weight >= 5% of elastomeric yarn or rubber thread ($11.6 per kg), while the average price for exports of warp knit fabrics, incl. those made on galloon knitting machines, of a width of > 30 cm ($4,080 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: knitted or crocheted fabrics, of a width <= 30 cm, containing by weight >= 5% of elastomeric yarn or rubber thread (+2.2%), while the prices for the other products experienced a decline.

China Knitted Fabric Exports

In September 2022, the amount of knitted or crocheted fabrics exported from China reduced to 360K tons, with a decrease of -9% on the previous month's figure. In general, exports recorded a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 74% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 505K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, knitted fabric exports declined to $1.9B (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 81% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 2.8M tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

China Knitted Fabric Exports by Type

Fabrics, knitted or crocheted, of a width of > 30 cm (169K tons), knitted or crocheted pile fabrics (102K tons) and knitted or crocheted fabrics, of a width > 30 cm, containing by weight >= 5% of elastomeric yarn or rubber thread (60K tons) were the main products of knitted fabric exports from China, with a combined 92% share of total exports. These products were followed by warp knit fabrics, incl. those made on galloon knitting machines, of a width of > 30 cm, knitted or crocheted fabrics, of a width <= 30 cm, containing by weight >= 5% of elastomeric yarn or rubber thread and knitted or crocheted fabrics, of a width <= 30 cm, which together accounted for a further 8.1%.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by knitted or crocheted fabrics, of a width <= 30 cm (with a CAGR of -1.7%), while the other products experienced a decline.

In value terms, fabrics, knitted or crocheted, of a width of > 30 cm ($968M) remains the largest type of knitted fabric exported from China, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by knitted or crocheted pile fabrics ($429M), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by knitted or crocheted fabrics, of a width > 30 cm, containing by weight >= 5% of elastomeric yarn or rubber thread, with a 21% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of fabrics, knitted or crocheted, of a width of > 30 cm stood at -4.0%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: knitted or crocheted pile fabrics (-4.9% per month) and knitted or crocheted fabrics, of a width > 30 cm, containing by weight >= 5% of elastomeric yarn or rubber thread (-5.8% per month).

China Knitted Fabric Exports by Country

Vietnam (51K tons) was the main destination for knitted fabric exports from China, with a 14% share of total exports. Moreover, knitted fabric exports to Vietnam exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bangladesh (22K tons), twofold. India (19K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.4% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Vietnam totaled -4.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Bangladesh (-7.4% per month) and India (-2.7% per month).

In value terms, Vietnam ($434M) remains the key foreign market for knitted fabric exports from China, comprising 23% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bangladesh ($142M), with a 7.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Cambodia, with a 6.8% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Vietnam amounted to -2.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Bangladesh (-6.6% per month) and Cambodia (-8.7% per month).
