Ink Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022
The average ink export price stood at $20,568 per ton in 2022, reducing by -12.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 60% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $23,461 per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($48,442 per ton), while the average price for exports to French Polynesia ($47 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+18.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ink Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average ink import price amounted to $9,469 per ton, waning by -6.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 48% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $14,796 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($68,782 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($3,798 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+17.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ink Exports in Malaysia
In 2022, overseas shipments of inks (excluding printing ink) decreased by -20.8% to 2.6K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 71%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 3.3K tons, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, ink exports fell sharply to $53M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 158% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $76M, and then plummeted in the following year.
