Turkey, Russia, Germany, India, the UK, Mexico, Thailand, the Netherlands, Italy and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +30.3%), while consumption for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($221M) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($101M). It was followed by India.

In the United States, the imines market increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+11.6% per year) and India (-9.9% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 6.9% against the previous year. Global production peaked at 138K tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imines production rose slightly to $868M in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 19%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $944M. From 2017 to 2022, global production growth remained at a lower figure.

Production By Country

China (70K tons) remains the largest imines producing country worldwide, accounting for 54% of total volume. Moreover, imines production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (26K tons), threefold. France (12K tons) ranked third in terms of total production with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in China was relatively modest. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (+0.9% per year) and France (+5.8% per year).

Imports

In 2022, global imports of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof soared to 188K tons, picking up by 23% against 2021. Overall, imports recorded a prominent expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, the average imines import price amounted to $10,679 per ton, surging by 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($50,189 per ton), while Turkey ($6,365 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+8.6%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports

In 2022, global imines exports soared to 181K tons, rising by 16% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 29%. The global exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, imines exports skyrocketed to $1.9B in 2022. In general, exports recorded strong growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports By Country

China was the key exporter of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof in the world, with the volume of exports finishing at 73K tons, which was approx. 41% of total exports in 2022. India (27K tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by France (6.4%), Germany (5.3%) and the Netherlands (4.5%). The following exporters - Spain (7K tons), the United States (6.9K tons), South Korea (5K tons), Indonesia (4.6K tons), Brazil (3.9K tons), Norway (3.8K tons), Japan (3.4K tons) and Belgium (3.2K tons) - together made up 21% of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +11.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Indonesia (+70.3%), Brazil (+44.9%), South Korea (+38.5%), the Netherlands (+26.5%), the United States (+14.3%), Belgium (+9.6%), France (+8.7%), India (+8.2%), Germany (+5.4%), Norway (+5.4%) and Spain (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +70.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Japan (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+7.1 p.p.), the Netherlands (+3.4 p.p.), Indonesia (+2.5 p.p.), South Korea (+2.5 p.p.) and Brazil (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Spain, India, Germany and Japan saw its share reduced by -1.9%, -2.2%, -2.6% and -3.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($672M) remains the largest imines supplier worldwide, comprising 36% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($331M), with an 18% share of global exports. It was followed by India, with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled +14.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+9.8% per year) and India (+8.9% per year).

Export Prices By Country

The average imines export price stood at $10,400 per ton in 2022, jumping by 15% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($28,319 per ton), while Indonesia ($5,009 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+3.1%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
