Hot-Rolled Free-Cutting Steel Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average hot-rolled free-cutting steel export price amounted to $1,235 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 9.5% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,465 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,673 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($918 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In June 2023, the average hot-rolled free-cutting steel import price amounted to $1,008 per ton, falling by -1.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 10% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,257 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Czech Republic ($1,201 per ton) and Bulgaria ($1,152 per ton), while the price for France ($948 per ton) and Poland ($970 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Hot-Rolled Free-Cutting Steel Exports in Germany

In 2022, the amount of hot-rolled bars in free-cutting steels exported from Germany shrank significantly to 74K tons, with a decrease of -16.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 111% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 89K tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, hot-rolled free-cutting steel exports rose significantly to $101M in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 192%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, hot-rolled free-cutting steel imports soared to $42M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
