Halogenated Hydrocarbon Derivative Price in the United States (FOB) - 2022

The average halogenated hydrocarbon derivative export price stood at $1,316 per ton in 2022, increasing by 9.1% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative export price increased by +44.8% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 33%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($3,322 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($382 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+17.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Halogenated Hydrocarbon Derivative Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average halogenated hydrocarbon derivative import price amounted to $2,589 per ton, which is down by -26.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 29% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,773 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($9,805 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($720 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Halogenated Hydrocarbon Derivative Exports in the United States

For the third year in a row, the United States recorded decline in overseas shipments of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons, which decreased by -1.5% to 2.3M tons in 2022. Overall, exports saw a abrupt decline.

In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports expanded notably to $3.1B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, approx. 308K tons of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons were imported into the United States; which is down by -11.3% against the previous year. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 347K tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports expanded markedly to $1B in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +80.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
