Gum Arabic Price in Uganda (CIF) - 2022

The average gum arabic import price stood at $4,595 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $5,726 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($7,134 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($2,066 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+33.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average gum arabic export price amounted to $2,887 per ton, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 27% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $5,017 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($6,445 per ton), while the average price for exports to Burundi amounted to $2,669 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Gum arabic imports into Uganda reduced notably to 786 kg in 2022, shrinking by -92.7% against 2021. Overall, imports showed a sharp slump.
