In July 2023, the average gum arabic import price amounted to $4,595 per ton, with a decrease of -20.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 32% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $5,947 per ton. From May 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($28,588 per ton), while the price for France ($4,450 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chad (+29.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average gum arabic export price stood at $9,275 per ton in 2022, increasing by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 796% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $51,135 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($13,699 per ton), while the average price for exports to Papua New Guinea ($3,064 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
