Graphite Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average graphite import price amounted to $2,312 per ton, rising by 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 81% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,855 per ton. From May 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($4,084 per ton), while the price for Mexico ($589 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Graphite Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average graphite export price stood at $2,792 per ton in August 2023, with a decrease of -1.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 39% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,352 per ton. From July 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($6,848 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($1,486 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Graphite Imports in the United States
In 2022, imports of graphite (natural) into the United States surged to 90K tons, increasing by 73% on the previous year. In general, imports saw significant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, graphite imports soared to $187M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Graphite Exports in the United States
Graphite exports from the United States was estimated at 10K tons in 2022, picking up by 11% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 41% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, graphite exports rose significantly to $29M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
