Graphite Price in China (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average graphite export price amounted to $1,400 per ton, increasing by 7.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 49% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,865 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,761 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($563 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Graphite Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average graphite import price amounted to $707 per ton, surging by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 52% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($11,234 per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($429 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+48.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Graphite Exports in China
In 2022, approx. 245K tons of graphite (natural) were exported from China; declining by -14.5% on 2021. Overall, exports saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year.
In value terms, graphite exports skyrocketed to $385M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Graphite imports into China soared to 170K tons in 2022, jumping by 185% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment.
In value terms, graphite imports surged to $121M in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
