The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $216M, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports By Country
In 2022, the United States (4.2K tons), distantly followed by the UK (1.7K tons) represented the major importers of planes, chisels and gouges for working wood, together committing 22% of total imports. The following importers - Belgium (1,189 tons), Malaysia (1,183 tons), Chile (1,179 tons), Indonesia (1,160 tons), Palestine (1,075 tons), Nigeria (1,046 tons), India (739 tons), Germany (693 tons), Russia (669 tons), France (620 tons) and the United Arab Emirates (612 tons) - together made up 37% of total imports.

Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +26.7% from 2012-2022. The UK and the United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-4.7%) and Nigeria (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United States (+6.3 p.p.), Chile (+3.8 p.p.), Malaysia (+3.4 p.p.) and India (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Russia and Nigeria saw its share reduced by -2.2% and -8.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United States ($33M) constitutes the largest market for imported planes, chisels and gouges for working wood worldwide, comprising 17% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($15M), with a 7.8% share of global imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 7% share.
