In 2022, the average goats; live import price amounted to $89 per unit, rising by 95% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $117 per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($177 per unit), while the price for Iran ($27 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+51.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average goats; live export price stood at $147 per unit in 2022, picking up by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, goats; live export price decreased by -9.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 40%. The export price peaked at $161 per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($383 per unit), while the average price for exports to Jordan ($80 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahrain (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of goats; lives decreased by -56.8% to 70K units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 199%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 163K units, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, goats; live imports fell dramatically to $6.3M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 88%. Imports peaked at $7.5M in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
