Glucose Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023

The average glucose export price stood at $1,082 per ton in September 2023, which is down by -3.3% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated notable growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, glucose export price decreased by -22.3% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 35% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,393 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($1,326 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($714 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Glucose Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023

The average glucose import price stood at $978 per ton in September 2023, with a decrease of -12.2% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a tangible increase from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, glucose import price decreased by -17.1% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 29% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,229 per ton. From February 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($5,118 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($768 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Glucose Exports in Italy

In 2022, approx. 188K tons of glucose and glucose syrup were exported from Italy; increasing by 13% compared with the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, glucose exports skyrocketed to $136M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
