Glucose Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average glucose import price amounted to $908 per ton, reducing by -2.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated notable growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, glucose import price decreased by +0.6% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 41% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,084 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,128 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($369 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Glucose Price in Germany (FOB) - 2022
The average glucose export price stood at $750 per ton in 2022, jumping by 40% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, glucose export price increased by +80.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,003 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($562 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Glucose Imports in Germany
In 2022, approx. 767K tons of glucose and glucose syrup were imported into Germany; growing by 2.2% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 14%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, glucose imports skyrocketed to $467M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.7% over the last three-year period. Glucose Exports in Germany
In 2022, overseas shipments of glucose and glucose syrup decreased by -6.5% to 225K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 7.3%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 241K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, glucose exports surged to $169M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +22.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +82.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
