The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global production hit record highs at 151M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, gas supply meter production reduced slightly to $106.6B in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 26%. The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were China (30M units), the United States (17M units) and India (11M units), together comprising 40% of global production. Italy, Japan, Nigeria, Russia, Brazil, Thailand, Mexico, France, the UK and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

Imports

World Imports of Gas Supply Or Production Meters

In 2022, global imports of gas supply or production meters fell to 12M units, with a decrease of -8.1% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 14%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 13M units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of global imports failed to regain momentum.

At the same time, Kenya (+114.8%), Pakistan (+51.7%), Ukraine (+22.5%), India (+15.9%), Georgia (+14.4%), Germany (+11.1%), Colombia (+9.4%), the United States (+6.5%), Italy (+4.1%) and France (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kenya emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +114.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-3.3%) and Russia (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The UK (+6.8 p.p.), India (+4.2 p.p.), Ukraine (+3.8 p.p.), the United States (+2.7 p.p.), Pakistan (+2.5 p.p.), Kenya (+2.5 p.p.) and Georgia (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Azerbaijan and Russia saw its share reduced by -2.5% and -4.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest gas supply meter importing markets worldwide were the UK ($132M), the United States ($69M) and France ($43M), with a combined 33% share of global imports. Italy, Kenya, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, India, Georgia, Colombia and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Kenya, with a CAGR of +119.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

The average gas supply meter import price stood at $60 per unit in 2022, picking up by 4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 7.3%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $71 per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($113 per unit), while Pakistan ($14 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +92.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Poland (-2.2%), the United States (-5.1%), Germany (-6.1%) and Slovakia (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+12 p.p.), Thailand (+5.9 p.p.), Turkey (+3.8 p.p.), Malaysia (+3.4 p.p.), Italy (+3.2 p.p.), Tunisia (+2.8 p.p.) and Romania (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while the United States, Poland, Germany and Slovakia saw its share reduced by -2.8%, -4.3%, -10% and -10.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest gas supply meter supplying countries worldwide were Germany ($136M), China ($123M) and Italy ($66M), together accounting for 40% of global exports. The United States, Malaysia, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Mexico, Tunisia, Turkey, Russia and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +99.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average gas supply meter export price stood at $54 per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -29.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 23%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $77 per unit, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
