Fuel Made From Coal

Fuel made from coal, also known as coal fuel or coal-derived fuel, refers to various types of fuel produced from coal through different conversion processes. Indirect liquefaction, on the other hand, first gasifies coal into syngas and then converts the syngas into liquid fuels through Fischer-Tropsch synthesis.

Coal-derived fuels have been used in various applications, including transportation, power generation, and heating. In transportation, coal-derived liquid fuels can be used as a substitute for diesel or gasoline. Coal-based diesel fuels are typically blended with petroleum-based diesel to enhance their properties. Similarly, coal-based gasoline can be mixed with traditional gasoline to increase its octane rating and reduce emissions.

Power generation is another significant application of coal-derived fuels. Coal is burned in power plants to generate heat, which is then used to produce steam. The steam drives turbines that generate electricity. The use of coal in power generation has raised environmental concerns due to its carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants. However, advancements in technology have led to the development of cleaner coal technologies, such as ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plants and integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plants.
