Fruit and Berry Price in Italy (FOB) - 2022

The average fruit and berry export price stood at $1,303 per ton in 2022, which is down by -6.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,392 per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($1,769 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($700 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Fruit and Berry Price in Italy (CIF) - 2022

The average fruit and berry import price stood at $1,091 per ton in 2022, reducing by -4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 8.2% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,144 per ton, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,256 per ton), while the price for Colombia ($671 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Fruit and Berry Exports in Italy

Fruit and berry exports from Italy fell slightly to 2.6M tons in 2022, leveling off at the year before. Over the period under review, exports saw a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 0.3%.

In value terms, fruit and berry exports dropped to $3.4B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 10%.

In general, imports continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 0.2% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.1M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fruit and berry imports contracted to $2.1B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 7.5%.
