Fructose Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average fructose import price amounted to $1,478 per ton, growing by 11% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 16% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,534 per ton in January 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to July 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($9,134 per ton), while the price for China ($941 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+19.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Fructose Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

The average fructose export price stood at $1,141 per ton in 2022, rising by 60% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The export price peaked at $1,539 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were New Zealand ($1,189 per ton) and China ($1,084 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($1,017 per ton) and Thailand ($1,051 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Fructose Imports in Australia

In 2022, fructose imports into Australia dropped to 23K tons, which is down by -6.7% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 25K tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, fructose imports rose slightly to $35M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Fructose Exports in Australia

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of fructose and fructose syrup decreased by -68.5% to 8.6K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a sharp slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 27K tons, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, fructose exports declined sharply to $9.8M in 2022. In general, exports showed a dramatic decline. The smallest decline of -2.2% was in 2021.
