Frozen Crustaceans Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average frozen crustaceans import price amounted to $10,649 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 6.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $13,372 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($28,176 per ton), while the price for China ($9,676 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Frozen Crustaceans Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average frozen crustaceans export price amounted to $19,480 per ton, declining by -18.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 53% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $32,344 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($52,305 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($6,662 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+21.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Frozen Crustaceans Imports in Australia

Frozen crustaceans imports into Australia surged to 26K tons in 2022, growing by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +55.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, frozen crustaceans imports surged to $320M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
