Flax Yarn Price in Poland (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average flax yarn export price amounted to $14,582 per ton, with an increase of 4.1% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 9.5% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in July 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($22,538 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($10,391 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average flax yarn import price stood at $13,689 per ton in July 2023, reducing by -47.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 an increase of 89% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $26,154 per ton, and then shrank dramatically in the following month.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($14,226 per ton), while the price for China totaled $12,515 per ton.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Flax Yarn Exports in Poland

In 2022, approx. 3.7K tons of flax yarns were exported from Poland; shrinking by -14.3% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 4.3K tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, flax yarn exports stood at $43M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% over the last three years. For the fourth consecutive year, Poland recorded growth in overseas purchases of flax yarns, which increased by 5.6% to 298 tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +64.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, flax yarn imports surged to $4.1M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
