Fireclay Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average fireclay export price amounted to $335 per ton, increasing by 32% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $413 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($537 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($182 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Fireclay Price in the United States (CIF) - 2022

The average fireclay import price stood at $479 per ton in 2022, increasing by 4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, fireclay import price decreased by -25.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $646 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($477 per ton), while the price for China amounted to $473 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Fireclay Exports in the United States

In 2022, approx. 159K tons of fireclay were exported from the United States; waning by -24.3% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 11%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 210K tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, fireclay exports shrank to $48M in 2022. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 10%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $53M, and then shrank in the following year.
