Ferro-Molybdenum Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023

The average ferro-molybdenum import price stood at $35,821 per ton in July 2023, rising by 2.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated modest growth from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, ferro-molybdenum import price decreased by -34.2% against May 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 45% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $54,448 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were China ($39,451 per ton) and Chile ($35,343 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($31,628 per ton) and Thailand ($33,594 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Ferro-Molybdenum Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average ferro-molybdenum export price amounted to $26,850 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 107%. The export price peaked at $33,324 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($32,955 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($26,830 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ferro-Molybdenum Imports in Japan

In 2022, approx. 1.2K tons of ferro-molybdenum were imported into Japan; which is down by -35.2% on 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded a precipitous shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 72%.

In value terms, ferro-molybdenum imports dropped markedly to $33M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 173%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $43M, and then declined notably in the following year.
