The average ester gums import price stood at $2,479 per ton in July 2023, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.7% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,117 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($4,357 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($1,675 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Ester Gums Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average ester gums export price amounted to $2,297 per ton, surging by 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 25% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $3,450 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Russia ($2,292 per ton) and Italy ($2,253 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($1,719 per ton) and Iran ($2,144 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Ester Gums Imports in Turkey
In 2022, the amount of ester gumses imported into Turkey was estimated at 14K tons, standing approx. at 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 15K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ester gums imports skyrocketed to $41M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.3% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
