Crude Oil Price Last 2 Years

Over the past two years, the price of crude oil has experienced significant fluctuations due to a variety of factors including global supply and demand dynamics, geopolitical events, and economic trends.

In July 2019, the price of crude oil was on a downward trajectory. This was primarily driven by concerns about slowing global economic growth and escalating trade tensions between the United States and China. The U.S.-China trade dispute had a profound impact on the oil market as it threatened to reduce global oil demand. As a result, the price of crude oil dropped to around $56 per barrel in September 2019.

In October 2019, however, the price of crude oil started to rebound. This was mainly due to positive developments in trade negotiations between the U.S. and China and optimism about a potential trade deal. Additionally, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies agreed to deepen production cuts in order to stabilize prices. These factors resulted in a gradual increase in the price of crude oil, reaching around $65 per barrel by December 2019.

In early 2020, the price of crude oil experienced a sharp decline. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown measures imposed by governments around the world led to a drastic decrease in global oil demand. This, coupled with a price war between OPEC and Russia, caused a significant oversupply in the oil market. Consequently, crude oil prices plummeted to historic lows, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil briefly trading in negative territory in April 2020.

However, as countries started to ease lockdown restrictions and global economic activity gradually resumed, the price of crude oil began to recover. The implementation of production cuts by OPEC and its allies further supported the price rebound. By December 2020, the price of crude oil had rebounded to around $48 per barrel.

In 2021, despite the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic, the price of crude oil continued to rally. Vaccine rollouts and expectations of a strong economic recovery fueled optimism about a rebound in oil demand. By October 2021, the price of crude oil surpassed $80 per barrel, its highest level since 2014.

Overall, the past two years have shown significant volatility in crude oil prices, reflecting the impact of various global events and economic factors. It is important to note that commodity prices are influenced by numerous variables, and future price movements remain uncertain.
