Copper Wire Price in Peru (FOB) - 2021

The average copper wire export price stood at $5,216 per ton in April 2020, falling by -14.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2020 when the average export price increased by 1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $6,424 per ton in January 2020; however, from February 2020 to April 2020, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In April 2020, the country with the highest price was Chile ($8,826 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($3,238 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2020 to April 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+14.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Copper Wire Price in Peru (CIF) - 2022

The average copper wire import price stood at $8,535 per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 58%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $11,554 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($17,367 per ton), while the price for China ($6,152 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+10.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Copper Wire Exports in Peru

In 2022, approx. 36K tons of copper wires were exported from Peru; reducing by -16.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 26%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 44K tons, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, copper wire exports contracted dramatically to $324M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% over the last three-year period.
