Copper Wire Price in China (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average copper wire import price amounted to $9,653 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 7.6% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $10,125 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($18,543 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($8,051 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Copper Wire Price in China (FOB) - 2023

The average copper wire export price stood at $9,111 per ton in September 2023, approximately equating the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.4% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $9,903 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In September 2023, the countries with the highest prices were India ($10,942 per ton) and Thailand ($10,251 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($8,580 per ton) and the Philippines ($8,655 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Copper Wire Imports in China

In 2022, supplies from abroad of copper wires decreased by -11.5% to 99K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 8.9% against the previous year.

In value terms, copper wire imports fell to $1B in 2022. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +40.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 44%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.1B, and then fell in the following year.
