Copper; Master Alloys Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average copper; master alloys export price amounted to $5,525 per ton, surging by 12% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 33% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $7,238 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($11,082 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($3,261 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+66.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average copper; master alloys import price amounted to $8,655 per ton, declining by -13.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $12,920 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($49,451 per ton), while the price for Spain ($2,696 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Copper; master alloys exports from the United States contracted to 2.2K tons in 2022, dropping by -7.3% against the previous year. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 2.3K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, copper; master alloys exports declined significantly to $13M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +24.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $16M, and then plummeted in the following year.
