Concrete Reinforcing Bar Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021

The average concrete reinforcing bar export price stood at $603 per ton in December 2021, waning by -6% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a temperate increase from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.4% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, concrete reinforcing bar export price decreased by -6.0% against November 2021 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2021 when the average export price increased by 17% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $641 per ton in November 2021, and then declined in the following month.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for China.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +3.4% per month.

Concrete Reinforcing Bar Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021

In December 2021, the average concrete reinforcing bar import price amounted to $809 per ton, dropping by -2.2% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated noticeable growth from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, concrete reinforcing bar import price decreased by -16.8% against October 2021 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2021 an increase of 40% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $972 per ton in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to December 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,130 per ton) and India ($959 per ton), while the price for Singapore ($760 per ton) and Turkey ($765 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Concrete Reinforcing Bar Exports in Malaysia

For the fourth year in a row, Malaysia recorded growth in overseas shipments of concrete reinforcing bars, which increased by 147% to 1.1M tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, concrete reinforcing bar exports surged to $775M in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

For the third consecutive year, Malaysia recorded decline in overseas purchases of concrete reinforcing bars, which decreased by -2.4% to 74K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a sharp slump.
