Common Clay Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023
The average common clay import price stood at $176 per ton in August 2023, falling by -36.3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 168% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $584 per ton. From January 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($538 per ton), while the price for Senegal ($97.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Common Clay Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022
The average common clay export price stood at $132 per ton in 2022, which is down by -34.1% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $200 per ton in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,628 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($31 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+21.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Common Clay Imports in the UK
In 2022, supplies from abroad of common clay increased by 26% to 122K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, common clay imports skyrocketed to $32M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +94.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
