Common Clay Price in China (CIF) - 2022
The average common clay import price stood at $762 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 196% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $1,328 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($15,762 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($24 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+14.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Common Clay Price in China (FOB) - 2022
The average common clay export price stood at $256 per ton in 2022, picking up by 49% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($539 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($114 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+24.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Common Clay Imports in China
Common clay imports into China reduced markedly to 33K tons in 2022, falling by -69.9% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 155%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 110K tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
In value terms, common clay imports dropped to $25M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $28M, and then reduced in the following year.

Common Clay Exports in China
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of common clay decreased by -44.5% to 36K tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a mild decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 37%.
In value terms, common clay exports declined significantly to $9.1M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year.
