Commercial Printing Price in India (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average commercial printing export price amounted to $4,452 per ton, with an increase of 5.7% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, commercial printing export price increased by +7.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 32%. The export price peaked at $4,984 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($10,633 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($3,426 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nigeria (+18.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Commercial Printing Price in India (CIF) - 2023

The average commercial printing import price stood at $13,704 per ton in July 2023, jumping by 20% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 47% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $18,449 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($27,965 per ton), while the price for Canada ($2,953 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Commercial Printing Exports in India

In 2022, the amount of commercial printing (except screen and books) exported from India amounted to 123K tons, with an increase of 15% on 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 25%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, commercial printing exports soared to $548M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 27%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, commercial printing imports surged to $399M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight decrease.
