Coin Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average coin import price amounted to $1,578,429 per ton, jumping by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 429%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($5,725,733 per ton), while the price for China ($23,351 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+20.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In August 2023, the average coin export price amounted to $3.4M per ton, shrinking by -21.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, posted a temperate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 105% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $7.5M per ton in April 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($3.5M per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria amounted to $663K per ton.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+3.8%).

Coin Imports in Hungary

In 2022, overseas purchases of coins decreased by -57.8% to 4.2 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 2,454%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 19 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, coin imports shrank dramatically to $6.7M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 2,162% against the previous year.

In 2022, shipments abroad of coins decreased by -74.2% to 78 kg for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 478%.

In value terms, coin exports declined markedly to $225K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 756% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $776K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
