In September 2023, the average coin import price amounted to $9.1M per ton, which is down by -57.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 an increase of 604% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $24,230 per kg; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Poland ($75.2M per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($933K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+44.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average coin export price stood at $28.0M per ton in September 2023, jumping by 132% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price posted a resilient increase. The export price peaked at $28.1M per ton in July 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($66.9M per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($912K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+24.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of coins decreased by -98.6% to 1.9 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, recorded significant growth. In value terms, coin exports reduced rapidly to $51M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 8,597%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $188M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
