Cocoa Butter Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average cocoa butter import price amounted to $5,188 per ton, rising by 2.4% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 33% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in September 2023.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($5,135 per ton), while the price for Indonesia stood at $5,006 per ton.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average cocoa butter export price amounted to $3,586 per ton, increasing by 3.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $9,526 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($4,290 per ton), while the average price for exports to Samoa amounted to $3,348 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+23.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Cocoa Butter Imports in New Zealand

In 2022, overseas purchases of cocoa butter decreased by -15.3% to 2.1K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 3.1K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cocoa butter imports reduced sharply to $9.6M in 2022. In general, imports showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $18M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
