Citrus Fruit Preserves Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2023
In February 2023, the average citrus fruit preserves export price amounted to $1,875 per ton, with an increase of 54% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a noticeable increase from February 2022 to February 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2023 figures, citrus fruit preserves export price decreased by -12.3% against December 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 84% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $2,137 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to February 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In February 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,275 per ton), while the average price for exports to Namibia ($1,063 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Citrus Fruit Preserves Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2022
The average citrus fruit preserves import price stood at $1,932 per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 44% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,128 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($3,224 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($917 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Citrus Fruit Preserves Exports in South Africa
In 2022, overseas shipments of citrus fruit jams, marmalades, jellies, purees or pastes decreased by -2.1% to 1K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.3K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, citrus fruit preserves exports declined dramatically to $1.8M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 31%.
