Citric Acid Manufacturing Process

The third step in the manufacturing process is the purification of citric acid. This is achieved through a series of chemical and physical processes. One of the common methods used is ion exchange chromatography, where the impurities are selectively adsorbed onto a resin while the citric acid passes through. Other methods like solvent extraction, crystallization, and filtration may also be employed.

Once the citric acid is purified, the final step is the crystallization of citric acid. This involves cooling the purified solution to a lower temperature, which causes the citric acid to crystallize out. The crystals are separated from the liquid using filtration or centrifugation.
